Near retirees worry most about affording health insurance, but workers in other major demographic groups worry most about sudden loss of income, say researchers at MetLife Inc.
Only 49% of workers age 61 and over say getting the money to survive sudden income loss is their top financial security concern.
But 57% of single employees, 64% of baby boomer workers and 75% of parents of children under age 6 say sudden income loss is their top financial security concern.
Researchers at MetLife, New York, have included those figures in a summary of results from a late 2006 survey of 1,202 U.S. adults ages 21 and older who work at employers with 2 or more employees.
Although disability is the major insurable cause of loss of income, only 58% of the workers surveyed said they have disability insurance, and 43% of the surveyed workers who do have disability insurance said their coverage is inadequate.
