The actor who played Captain James T. Kirk on "Star Trek" will be shuttling down to the 2007 ACORD-LOMA Insurance Systems Forum in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

William Shatner will help kick off the 3-day forum, which will start May 20, organizers say.

LOMA, Atlanta, is group dedicated to improving operations at financial services companies.

ACORD, Pearl River, N.Y., helps set technical standards for insurers and other players in the insurance industry.

Shatner may be best known for starring as the captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise on "Star Trek." He also has had major parts in films such as "The Brothers Karamazov" and "Judgment at Nuremberg," and he now plays the lawyer Denny Crane in "Boston Legal,"

Shatner's character in "Star Trek" expressed mixed feelings about computers and often had to talk improperly performing computers and androids into shutting themselves down.

Kirk also worked with his crew to improvise ad hoc interfaces to a number of large human and alien legacy mainframe systems on the fly.

In the episode "Metamorphosis," Kirk foreshadowed ACORD XML schema by describing a "universal translator" system that "selects the ideas and concepts it recognizes," "provides the necessary grammar," then translates the results into English.
