AALTCI: Nursing Homes Get 36% Of LTC Benefits

The majority of private long term care insurance benefits appear to go to pay for home care and assisted living care.

Researchers at the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, Westlake Village, Calif., have reported that finding in an analysis of the $3.3 billion in LTC insurance benefits paid during the 12-month period ending Dec. 31, 2006.

Only about 36% of the benefits went to nursing homes, AALTCI researchers report.

About 34% of the benefits went to pay for home care, and 30% went to pay for assisted living care, the researchers estimate.

The largest single claim reported has exceeded $875,000, the researchers report.
