A large managed care company has expanded availability of a line of plans aimed at consumers who buy their own health coverage.

Aetna Inc., Hartford, says it has started marketing 2 high-deductible preferred provider organization plans, 5 low-deductible preferred provider organization plans, 2 hospital plans and an optional dental PPO plan to individuals and families in Colorado.

The high-deductible plans are compatible with the health savings account program.

The low-deductible plans offer no-deductible coverage for in-network doctor visits. They also include prescription drug coverage.

The hospital plans offer limited coverage for preventive care, limited coverage for outpatient surgery, and some coverage for inpatient hospital care.

Parents can use the plans, the Aetna Advantage plans, to cover their children even if they choose not to cover themselves, Aetna says.

Aetna is selling the Colorado plans through independent agents and brokers as well as through its own operations.
