The Executive Branch of the federal government has published its rulemaking to-do lists for the next 12 months.

Departments such as the U.S. Treasury Department and the U.S. Labor Department and agencies such as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission have run their mid-year regulator agendas today in the Federal Register.

The Employee Benefits Security Administration, an arm of the Labor Department, says, for example, that it is in the early stages of developing a rule relating to the independence of accountants.

The Internal Revenue Service agenda, which is part of the Treasury agenda, includes "long-term actions" such as projects involving treatment of accelerated death benefits, recomputation of life insurance reserves, guidance on phased retirement and converting an individual retirement account arrangement to a Roth individual retirement account.
