Bart Francis, the chair of the CFP Board of Governors, announced in a statement Oct. 24 that Don I. Tharpe will become interim CEO effective October 30 while the Board conducts a search for a permanent replacement for the departing Sarah Teslik. Tharpe was formerly president and CEO of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

Francis also announced that the Board of Governors conducted an "initial review" of the 336 comments it received from individual certificants and organizations on its proposed revisions to the Board's Code of Ethics. In response, Francis said the Board has appointed a task force of Board members "who have been most involved with CFP Board's ethical standards" to consider the comments. Also, he said the Board will "take up this issue again" in January 2007, and that the received comments will be posted on the Board's Web site at www.cfpboard.org by November 3.
