URAC Releases PBM Accreditation Draft

A group that helps set quality standards for health care organizations is developing a process for setting minimum standards for pharmacy benefit managers.

URAC, Washington, has posted draft commercial PBM accreditation standards on its Web site, at Document Link

The 7 accreditation "modules" include Organizational Integrity, Customer Service/Communications/Disclosure, Pharmacy Distribution Channels, Drug Use Management, Formulary, Medication Therapy Management, and Benefit Design/ Administration.

URAC hopes to release draft Medicare PBM standards in January 2007.

Public comments on the commercial PBM draft standards are due Dec. 1, URAC says.
