A major collector of consumer information is changing the way it does business.

MIB Group Inc., Westwood, Mass., says it will be making more of an effort to separate the operations of its MIB Inc. and MIB Solutions Inc. subsidiaries.

MIB manages the famous MIB consumer information database, which insurers can use to check applications for life, health and disability insurance for signs of fraud.

MIB Solutions, formerly known as e-Services Corp., markets the consumer checking service and also markets other MIB services, such as the Audit Focus service and the Claims Activity Index.

MIB Group, a nonprofit association, is trying to separate the operations of the unit to help MIB Inc. make the MIB database more useful and to help MIB Solutions be more effective at developing new products and joint ventures, according to MIB Group President James Cook.

To implement the change, MIB Group is promoting Robert DiAngelo to executive vice president of MIB Group and head of MIB Inc., from vice president and chief information officer of MIB Group.

MIB Group will promote Lee Oliphant to executive vice president of MIB Group and head of MIB Solutions, from chief financial officer.

DiAngelo has a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Massachusetts and a master's degree in computer science from Bentley College.

Oliphant has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Lehigh University and a master's degree in business from Boston College.
