A large managed care company is a step closer to winning a government health plan administration contract.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services has picked the Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Partnership Plan to participate in a final review process for a contract to provide health care benefits for aged, blind and disabled Buckeye State residents.

If Anthem Blue, a unit of WellPoint Inc., Indianapolis, gets the contract, it will be 1 of 3 managed care plans serving a contract that serves 95,000 Ohio residents.

Anthem Blue would be responsible for providing drug, behavioral health and vision benefits as well as basic medical coverage.
