On June 12, TD Ameritrade Institutional announced the launch of its "Advisors in Transition Mentor Council," a group of seven RIAs from around the country who have made the leap to independence. The mentors are matched with advisors in the transition program to provide support and guidance with setting up their own practice.

"Going independent can be a challenge," said Tom Bradley, the president of TD Ameritrade Institutional, in a statement. "Advisors now have an additional edge because they can build a relationship with a mentor who will provide assistance during the transition process."

TD Ameritrade also plans to host regular workshops in which mentors will discuss their experiences.

The premiere Mentor Council members are:

Deon Blaney of Private Wealth Management in Las Vegas, Nevada;

Ron Brock of Sheaff Brock in Indianapolis, Indiana;

Dave Ceponis of Ceponis Financial Group in Wilton, Connecticut;

David Dowell of Russell Capital Management in Lexington, Kentucky;

Seth Pearson of Pearson Financial Services in Dennis, Massachusetts;

John Valentine of Valentine Capital Asset Management in San Ramon, California;

Eric Witte of Ironmark Advisors LLC., in Plano, Texas.
