A unit of Conseco Inc. has introduced the Cancer Secure cancer insurance policy.

The policy, issued by Conseco Insurance Company, pays lump-sum benefits and can be offered to individuals ages 40 to 85, according to Conseco.

Conseco is using a simplified underwriting system and 2 plan options.

One plan design pays $10,000 to $50,000 in benefits to policyholders once the policyholders learn they have cancer.

The second design pays the lump-sum benefits and also pays a wellness benefit and extra benefits while a patient is in the hospital or receiving radiation treatment.

Both plans provide access to a 24-hour health advocate feature. The registered nurses who run the hotline can help patients with medical billing questions, resolve insurance claim concerns and make other arrangements associated with cancer treatment, Conseco says.
