Highmark Likes Looks Of Optical Chain

A large health insurer is buying an eyewear vendor.

A subsidiary of Highmark Inc., Pittsburgh, the parent of Highmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, has agreed to acquire ECCA Holdings Corp., San Antonio, the parent of Eye Care Centers of America Inc.

The price of the deal was not immediately available.

Regulators and ECCA shareholders still have to approve the deal, but the companies hope to complete it by Sept. 30.

Eye Care Centers has 384 stores in 36 states. Brand names include EyeMasters, Binyon's and Visionworks.
