Under President Bush's 2007 fiscal budget, the SEC's enforcement division as well as the inspections and examinations division would both get more cash. The administration is asking Congress to give it $328 million for the regulator's enforcement division, which is a $6 million increase, or 2%, over funds requested in the 2006 budget. Also, the administration is asking for 2% more in the budget to pay the salaries and benefits for enforcement division employees. Meanwhile, the SEC's inspections and examinations division's budget gets a boost of $3 million over 2006 figures.

Bush wants Congress to give him $906 million for the SEC's entire budget–which is $17 million more than the amount requested in 2006.–Melanie Waddell
