A major managed care company is offering a convenient new option for health plan members.

The company, CIGNA HealthCare, Bloomfield, Conn., is adding walk-in clinics operated by MinuteClinic Inc., Minneapolis, to its provider network.

MinuteClinic uses certified nurse practitioners to care for patients with routine conditions, such as strep throat or pink eye, in walk-in clinics located in large chain stores, such as Target department stores and CVS/pharmacy drug stores, according to CIGNA HealthCare, a unit of CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia.

The clinics are open 7 days a week, and no appointment is necessary, CIGNA HealthCare says.

MinuteClinic now has clinics in Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, North Carolina, Tennessee and Washington.
