A major drug store chain has agreed to help a unit of CIGNA Corp. market its new family of 3 Medicare Part D prescription drug plans.[@@]

The chain, Rite Aid Corp., Harrisburg, Pa., will provide in-store information about a co-branded version of CIGNA's CIGNATURE Rx plans and sell the plans in pharmacies throughout the country, according to CIGNA HealthCare, Bloomfield, Conn.

CIGNA HealthCare, a unit of CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, already has signed similar co-branding agreements with the operators of the Duane Reade Pharmacies in New York, the national Kmart pharmacy chain and the Publix pharmacies in the South.

CIGNA will be marketing co-branded Medicare drug coverage through 8,000 pharmacies and Medicare coverage with other arrangements through 42,000 other pharmacies, the company says.

All of the plans will use a 3-tier formulary that will give members access to most drugs typically prescribed by doctors, CIGNA says.
