Wellness Program To Nudge Members Through PDAs

Humana Inc. is backing a joint venture that will use wireless devices to encourage patients to live healthier lives.[@@]

Humana, Louisville, Ky., and Card Guard A.G., Neuhausen am Rheinfall, Switzerland, each have a 50% stake in Sensei Inc., a new startup that will offer personalized monitoring services for wellness and disease management mobile telephones and personal digital assistants.

Sensei will remind patients to exercise and take their medicine as well as giving them personalized nutrition and weight-loss information, Humana says.

Sensei hopes to introduce the wellness service by June 30, 2006, and to add monitoring for hypertension, diabetes, heart failure, stress reduction, asthma and other conditions by 2007, Humana says.
