New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer's office is asking for information about variable annuity transactions at Hartford Financial Services Group Inc.[@@]
Spitzer's office has sent the Hartford company a subpoena "requesting information relating to purchases of or exchanges into the company's variable annuity products by New York residents during the past 5 years where the purchase or exchange was funded using funds from a tax-qualified plan," Hartford says in a notice filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Spitzer's office also wants to know about New York residents who put variable annuities in a sub-account of a tax-qualified plan or put a variable annuity in a tax-qualified plan after buying the annuity, Hartford says.
