Independent Financial Marketing Group Inc. has hired Michael Weiss to be president.[@@]
Independent Financial, Purchase, N.Y., a company that distributes insurance and financial products through banks and other financial institutions, says Weiss will be based in Purchase.
Independent Financial is a unit of Sun Life Financial U.S., Wellesley Hills, Mass., which, in turn, is a unit of Sun Life Financial Inc., Toronto.
Weiss is succeeding Gary Corsi, who has been interim president of Independent Financial since July. Corsi, chief financial officer of Sun Life Financial U.S., will stay on the Independent Financial board, Sun Life Financial says.
Weiss previously was president of Sebago Associates L.L.C., New York, a financial consulting firm. Weiss also has been chief operations officer of Oppenheimer and Company Inc., New York.
Weiss has a bachelor's degree in business from the State University of New York and a master's degree in business from Pace University.
