The New York State Insurance Department has put Randolph Mineo in charge of starting and leading a new "office of the inspector general" at the New York Liquidation Bureau.[@@]

Mineo will be in charge of detecting fraud and waste in efforts to rehabilitate and liquidate troubled New York state insurers.

The New York department recently picked Jody Hall, the liquidation bureau's chief operating officer, to succeed James O'Connor as the bureau's chief executive officer.

Mineo spent 27 years working for the Port Washington, N.Y., police department, starting out as a patrol officer and leaving in 2000 as a deputy chief. From 2000 to 2004, he was chief of the Wilton, Conn., police department. Since 2004, Mineo has been teaching police management classes at Western Connecticut State University.

Mineo has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the New York Institute of Technology and a master's degree in criminal justice administration from Long Island University. He also is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
