More than 70% of the 8.4 million U.S. children without health coverage already are eligible for Medicaid or State Children's Health Insurance Program coverage.[@@]
Researchers at the State Health Access Data Assistance Center have published those figures in a report on a study of federal survey data conducted on behalf of Covering Kids & Families Back to School Campaign, a national campaign organized by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Princeton, N.J.
Only 12% of insured children went without professional medical care for an entire year, but 33% of the uninsured children had to go for a year without professional care, the researchers write.
