Barclays Global Investors Inc., the leading provider of exchange-trade funds, plans to introduce an ETF that tracks commodities.

Barclays said on Tuesday that it has filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission, seeking approval for the iShares GSCI Commodity-Indexed Trust.

The offering would look to track the performance of the GSCI Total Return Index, which seeks to reflect the performance of a diversified group of commodities.

The new offering would join another Barclay's offering that tracks a commodity, iShares COMEX Gold Tr (IAU), an ETF backed by gold bullion. In addition, the company said last month that it plans to offer an ETF tracking silver.
