South Dakota Director Quits

South Dakota Insurance Director Gary Steuck announced his resignation, effective July 22, Tuesday in an e-mail message sent to industry advocates.[@@]

Steuck was appointed director of insurance by Gov. Mike Rounds, a Republican, in 2003.

Steuck will assume the position of director of Dacotah Insurance, Mobridge, S.D., July 25.

At Dacotah, Steuck will oversee the company's 22 agencies and 2 title insurance companies. He also will have responsibilities at Dacotah Bank.

"In his 2 years as director of insurance, Mr. Steuck accomplished much and is credited with securing enactment of personal and commercial lines rate modernization," says Joe Thesing, state affairs manager for the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, Indianapolis.
