The Dutch Association of Insurers, Amsterdam, says some insureds who have the virus that causes AIDS belong in the same risk category that includes people with diabetes.[@@]

The insurers sponsored a study of HIV patients in the Netherlands who are receiving good medical treatment.

The insurers found that the mortality risk for those patients was comparable to the mortality risk for patients with diabetes or serious heart problems.

Several Dutch insurers have reacted to the findings by offer HIV patients the same kinds of commercial policies available to patients with diabetes, according the Dutch Association of Insurers.
