Cronin To Lead Actuarial Group

The American Academy of Actuaries, Washington, has named a new executive director.[@@]

Kevin Cronin, a visiting professor in the Georgia State University risk management department, will be succeeding Richard Lawson, who left the actuarial academy in January to become the vice president of federal government relations at Principal Financial Group Inc., Des Moines, Iowa.

The actuarial academy is a group formed in 1965 that now has 15,000 members. It sets professional standards for actuaries and advises government agencies on actuarial issues.

Cronin spent more than a decade working in the Washington office of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, Kansas City, Mo., and he has been working as an advisor to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in recent years as an advisor on risk management issues, according to the actuarial academy.

Cronin also has been chief executive of the International Insurance Council, Washington.

Cronin has a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and a law degree from Northeastern University.
