"I'm Running for Governor."[@@]

New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer made that declaration today in a Web log entry on his campaign Web site, at http://www.spitzer2006.com

Spitzer, who has shaken up the insurance world by investigating broker compensation practices, notes in the blog entry that he said almost a year ago that he would consider running for governor of New York.

"I start with the proposition that I'm going to fight for all New Yorkers and do my best for all the people of this state, regardless of their position or party, or color or creed," Spitzer writes.

New York officials need to get beyond partisanship and do more to generate good paying jobs, improve schools and make neighborhoods safer, Spitzer writes.

"I want to fix what's broken," Spitzer writes. "I bring people together whether they like it or not and we tackle complex problems ? not with band-aid solutions, but with major reform and real change. We did it in the financial industry and other sectors and we can do it in government."
