Fleet Veteran To Head Distribution Operation

Independent Financial Marketing Group Inc., Purchase, N.Y., has promoted Frieda Lewis to president of its IFMG Securities Inc. broker-dealer unit.[@@]

Independent Financial, an arm of Sun Life Financial Inc., Toronto, distributes annuities, mutual funds and other products through banks, credit unions and other financial institutions.

Lewis will supervise IFMG Securities broker-dealer activities and work with the mutual fund companies that sell their products through Independent Financial, Independent Financial says.

Lewis succeeds Richard Knoll, an Independent Financial senior vice president, who will be handling nationwide business development for Independent Financial.

Lewis began working for Independent Financial in March as a senior vice president. She previously was chief operating officer of the retail brokerage and insurance divisions at one of Independent Financial's competitors, Independent Financial says. She also has served as president of Fleet Clearing Corp., a unit of Fleet Financial Group Inc., Providence, R.I.

Lewis has a bachelor's degree in psychology from Lehman College and a master's degree in business from Baruch College.
