Although Election Day isn't until Nov. 2, the results of Investment Advisor's pre-election Presidential poll have already been tabulated. While there are no electoral votes at stake in this highly unscientific poll of IA readers, there's certainly been a great deal of interest. More readers responded to this poll than to any of our past monthly queries.

Among poll participants, George W. Bush was the overwhelming choice with a total of 59%of the votes cast. His Democratic challenger, John Kerry, received only 38% of the vote. Almost 4% of respondents indicated they were not happy with either candidate and were choosing to "sit this one out."

Interestingly enough, Kerry supporters were much more excited about their man. Of those choosing the Democratic candidate, 65% indicated that they enthusiastically supported Kerry and his proposed policies, with the remainder indicating that they are "not excited by John Kerry or his policies but I think we need a change"

Among supporters of the Republican candidate, the situation was somewhat reversed. Fifty-five percent of those who chose Bush indicated, "I disagree with some of the things the President has done, but I'm still going to vote for him," while only 45% indicated enthusiastic support for the incumbent and his policies.

The poll ran from October 1, 2004 to November 1. On a percentage basis, the results changed very little from day to day, although the total number of voters increased daily.
