CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, will be trying harder to help disability claimants return to work.[@@]

Instead of telling claimants who are struggling with conditions such as blindness or paralysis, "Get your old employer to take you back," "Find yourself a new job," or "Ask the government to find you a job," the company will be taking concrete steps to get claimants back into a regular work routine.

CIGNA's Intracorp unit will use vocational specialists to help claimants find transitional assignments at their old employers or in volunteer positions at nonprofit groups, CIGNA says.

CIGNA has hired Catalyst RTW Inc., Pittsburgh, and Expediter Corp., Pittsburgh, to help claimants who have an especially difficult time returning to work.

Catalyst RTW and Expediter will help find data-entry work, call center work and other forms of telecommuting work for workers who cannot return to their former jobs or get to new jobs in their own communities.
