Change is a constant in life, wise men tell us, so its always best to be prepared for things to be different today than they were yesterday. Still, it may have come as a shock to long-time National Underwriter readers to notice that the byline that accompanied the Washington dateline in some of our upfront news stories last week was not Steven Brostoffs.
After some 25 years with National Underwriter, 19 of them as Washington editor, Steve decided it was time to strike out on his own and test the waters of entrepreneurship. He is now the editor and publisher of Liability & Insurance Week, a newsletter that focuses on tort and insurance litigation.
It is difficult to express how much someone like Steve Brostoff has contributed to the success and sterling reputation of National Underwriter, not only in Washington, where he enjoyed the respect of colleagues and sources alike, but also with our readers all across the country. Suffice to say that his contribution over the years was enormous, that he covered all the bases in Washington and kept us up-to-date on all manner of issues that concerned the insurance business.
We wish Steve well in his new venture and thank him for all those years of dedicated service. And we can assure him that he will be remembered here as "one helluva reporter." For journalists, there is no higher accolade.
Fortunately, as circumstances would have it, we are not going to be left high and dry in our coverage of insurance doings in the nations capital. For while Steve Brostoffs byline was not over the Washington dateline last week, Arthur D. Postals was.
Postal also has been around Washington a long time and knows the ins and outs of the business like the back of his hand. Postal has been Washington bureau chief of the Insurance Chronicle, a publication that became part of the Highline Media family with the recent purchase by Highline of Thomson Financial Insurance Solutions.
Also joining the National Underwriter staff from the Insurance Chronicle are Matt Brady, associate editor in Washington, and Steven Tuckey, New York editor.
We look forward to seeing more and more of their articles in NU in the coming weeks and feel confident that reporting from Washington is in good hands.
