CHICAGO (HedgeWorld.com)–John Frede will become head of U.S. investment manager research at Mercer Investment Consulting on April 30.

In addition to his new duties overseeing the research effort, Mr. Frede still will oversee the pension fund consultant's hedge fund and fixed-income research divisions, a role he has had as senior manager research consultant for the last four years.

He will replace Brian Collins, who will join Harbor Capital Advisors, Huntington, N.Y., in a management position. According to Mercer, the investment research division is expanding to meet the growing needs of clients in both the traditional and alternative asset classes.

Mr. Frede will oversee a 15-member team of dedicated manager research consultants and analysts who are researching U.S.-based investment managers. He will chair the consulting firm's U.S. Rating Review Committee and serve as a member of the International Manager Ratings Review Committee.

Also, over the next three months, Mr. Frede will continue to handle the primary research for alternative investment strategies, including private equity and hedge funds. In the future, it's possible an individual on the research team could take up the additional workload, according to a Mercer spokeswoman.

Mercer has 450 clients with assets under management of nearly US$700 billion.
