NU Online News Service, Feb. 18, 2004, 5:36 p.m. EST – The American College is giving Huebner Gold Medals to Lee Gammill Jr. and O. Alfred Granum.[@@]

The Bryn Mawr, Pa., insurance college awards the Huebner to individuals who support the college and show deep dedication to education and professionalism.

Gammill is a former vice chairman of New York Life Insurance Company, New York, and Granum is the creator of "The One Card System," a tool that helps sales representatives manage and monitor their activity.

"Both Lee and Al have been instrumental in ensuring the continued success of the college and their companies," says Larry Barton, president of The American College. "They are well deserving of this honor."

Gammill started his career as a field representative with New York Life in 1957. He rose through the ranks and, by 1991, ended up with responsibility for the company's entire individual insurance operation.

Gammill also served as the national chairman of The American College's 21st Century Endowment and Special Gifts Campaign, which attracted 600 contributors and raised more than $25 million. The college named Gammill a trustee in 1997.

Granum started as general agent of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company's Chicago agency, where he built one of the most successful insurance agencies in the world. He has been a frequent speaker at meetings organized by groups such as The Million Dollar Round Table, Park, Ridge, Ill., and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, Falls Church, Va.

But Granum is probably best known for The One Card System, which is published by The National Underwriter Company, Erlanger, Ky.

In 2001, contributions from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation helped The American College create the O. Alfred Granum Chair in Practice Management. The Northwestern Mutual Foundation recently contributed an additional $100,000.

In 2002, NAIFA recognized Granum's lifetime of achievement in the life insurance industry by giving him its John Newton Russell Award.
