NU Online News Service, Jan. 8, 2004, 5:39 p.m. EST – California lawmakers probably will take another look at consumer privacy and health care reform this year, says Shari McHugh, legislative advocate for the Sacramento, Calif.-based California chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.[@@]
But McHugh is not ready to discuss her group's positions on the expected bills.
"It's early in the session, and we're not ready to tip our hand," she says.
McHugh also expects California lawmakers to consider suitability issues.
At the September 2003 meeting of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, Kansas City, Mo., the state representative for California did not vote for the proposed model regulation that deals with the suitable sales of annuities to senior citizens. The state probably will revisit the issue now that the NAIC has adopted the model, McHugh says.
The California chapter of NAIFA has not yet adopted a formal position on the suitability regulation.
