MetLife Shakes Up Benefits Sales Management

NU Online News Service, July 11, 2003, 12:27 p.m. EDT – MetLife Inc., New York, is shaking up the management team at its employee benefits operations.

The company is putting Maria Morris, a vice president, in charge of its Small Business Center and its individual business disability insurance, voluntary benefits and group regional operations.

Morris has been responsible for design and sales of MetLife's group disability products.

MetLife is also expanding the role of Tony Trani, the president of its Paragon Life Insurance Company unit. Trani will now run MetLife's group life operation as well as Paragon, MetLife says.

In other moves:

? Todd Katz, a vice president who has been running the group dental business, will take over Morris's old job as head of the group disability business.

? Michael Witwer, a vice president, will take over as head of group dental.

? Craig Guiffre, a vice president who has been chief marketing officer for institutional group insurance, will focus on sales to employers with more than 25,000 employees.

? Beth Hirschorn, a vice president and chief marketing officer for retirement and savings, will be the chief marketing officer for all institutional business. Hirschorn, who joined MetLife in 2002, previously was head of consumer financial services marketing at J.P. Morgan Chase & Company Inc., New York.

? Presley Surratt, a senior vice president for national accounts, will be responsible for retirement and savings.
