NU Online News Service, Jan. 29, 12:23 p.m. – The Association for Cooperative Operations Research and Development, Pearl River, N.Y., is introducing an award to recognize companies that use XML standards to achieve "straight through processing," or automation of the sales process from start to finish.

ACORD will also add a new category of achievement awards for insurers, reinsurers and brokers that succeed at using XML to improve their business operations and improve connections with trading partners.

XML is a set of rules for setting up systems that can translate information in one computer format to another format. Many insurers are using XML standards to combine old databases with new databases and to develop services that depend on the ability of many different computers to work together.

More information about the XML awards and other ACORD awards is available at http://www.acord.org/conf2003/conf2003_awards.asp
