NU Online News Service, Jan. 9, 1:29 p.m. – Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Newark, N.J., is starting a six-month pilot program that will cover the cost of some simple physician services provided through the Web site.

The pilot program, available to 2,500 Horizon plan members and two physician groups, will give participants the ability to handle appointment scheduling, specialist referral requests, medical histories, prescription refill ordering and distribution of routine lab results through MyDocOnline, a Web site run by a U.S. unit of Aventis S.A., Strasbourg, France, a pharmaceutical company.

Horizon is hoping that patients who submit inquiries by 3 p.m will receive responses by 6 p.m. the same day, and that patients who submit inquiries after 6 p.m. will receive responses by noon the following business day.
