NU Online News Service, Dec. 10, 11:53 a.m. – Many women who care for elderly or sick relatives are interested in long-term care insurance, according to a new survey by Zogby International, Utica, N.Y.
The researchers who conducted the survey, which was sponsored by John Hancock Financial Services Inc., Boston, and MetLife Inc., New York, found that 66% of the women surveyed provided assistance for a parent, and that 17% provided assistance for another adult relative.
Thirty-nine percent of the women surveyed say their experience as caregivers makes them more likely to buy long-term care insurance for themselves. The more time women spend providing care, the more likely they are to consider long-term care insurance, the Zogby researchers report.
Hancock and MetLife funded the survey in part to promote the new, voluntary long-term care insurance program they now run for federal employees and retirees.
