NU Online News Service, Nov. 8, 11:35a.m. – BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina in Columbia is rolling out what it says is the state's first consumer health plan that integrates a rollover cash account with health benefits.

The company says it designed the plan to help employers control rising premium costs while offering an appealing benefit option to employees.

BCBS of South Carolina licensed a health financial services system from MyHealhBank, Inc., Portland, Ore., to administer the cash account part of its plan.

The plan, which BlueCross calls Blue-by-Design, offers a high-deductible major medical preferred provider organization plan combined with an employer-funded health savings account, powered by MyHealthBank's Health Freedom System. BCBS of South Carolina will make the product available in January 2003 within the state and nationwide to employers with 50 or more employees.
