NU Online News Service, Oct. 23, 9:00 a.m. – The National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies has announced that it is expanding its membership categories to include agencies that would not have previously qualified for membership.

"NAILBA's new membership categories enable more agencies to take advantage of the association's valuable programs and services," says Edward R. Murray, chairman of NAILBA, in announcing the changes.

Until now, to be a member in the organization, an independent brokerage agency had to have direct reporting contracts with at least three insurance carriers and place at least 12 new cases each year with each company.

Now, NAILBA offers a new provisional membership category for new and smaller agencies. Provisional members have fewer reporting and case requirements than are needed for regular membership.

NAILBA says provisional members have access to all the benefits of regular membership except that they cannot vote, hold office or chair any of the committees in the association.

NAILBA also announced that it is making an associate membership category available to agencies that have met all the requirements of regular membership, except that one or more insurance carriers owns a non-controlling interest in the agency.
