HIAA Hires Communications Director

NU Online News Service, Oct. 9, 7:35 p.m. – The Health Insurance Association of America, Washington, has hired Larry Akey to be its director of communications.

Akey previously was a public affairs specialist and speechwriter for U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta. He also has been communications director for Sen. Conrad Burns, R-Mont., and chief of staff for former Rep. Rick Hill, R-Mont.

Before coming to Capitol Hill, Akey was a principal at Target Communications, Helena, Mont., and a partner at the Strategic Communications Group, Helena.

Akey has a bachelor's degree in resource conservation from the University of Montana.
