NU Online News Service, Oct. 7, 11:46 p.m. – The average occupancy rate for skilled nursing homes fell to 83.5% in the second quarter, from 84.5% in the second quarter of 2001, according to the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industries, Annapolis, Md.
Average occupancy rates for assisted living facilities fell to 84.5%, from 86%.
Although comparable-quarter comparisons look bleak, average occupancy rates are actually up from the rates recorded for the first quarter of 2002: the average rate for nursing homes was up from 82.5%, and the average rate for assisted living facilities was up from 84%.
The senior housing center compiled the statistics by surveying managers of 150,000 nursing home units and 100,000 assisted living units.
