Tufts CEO To Retire In May

NU Online News Service, Oct. 1, 7:35 p.m. – Tufts Health Plan Inc., Waltham, Mass., says its chief executive officer, Dr. Harris Berman, will retire May 30, 2003, on his 65th birthday.

Nancy Leaming, the company's president, will succeed Berman, Tufts says.

Dave Scoon, the chairman of the managed care company, will continue to be the chairman.

Berman and Leaming both went to work for Tufts in 1986. Tufts now has 900,000 members and 2,300 employees, up from 60,000 members and 165 members in 1986.

Leaming has more than 22 years of experience at managed care plans. Before she joined Tufts, she was chief financial officer of Matthew Thornton Health Plan, Manchester, N.H., a large, nonprofit managed care company.
