NU Online News Service, Sept. 30, 2:01 p.m. – The Phoenix Companies, Inc., Hartford, has hired James Polhemus to be senior vice president of bank distribution and G. Richard Sippel to be vice president of bank distribution for its Phoenix Home Life Variable Insurance Company subsidiary.

The two executives will build on the company's recent entry into the bank market, a Phoenix spokeswoman says. Polhemus and Sippel will focus mainly on increasing sales of Phoenix life insurance and annuity product sales to affluent bank customers.

Polhemus and Sippel "will lead us to banks ready to serve the high-net-worth [client]," says Michael Gilotti, a Phoenix executive vice president.

Polhemus will be responsible for acquiring bank partners for Phoenix and for producing products and services for the bank channel.

Sippel will be in charge of developing bank partnerships.

Phoenix's current bank partners include Webster Financial Corp., Waterbury, Conn.; SouthTrust Corp., Birmingham, Ala.; and Nexity Financial Corp., also in Birmingham.
