ESOPs Say They Outdid Stock Indices

NU Online News Service, Aug. 19, 5:15 p.m. – Seventy-one percent of the members of the ESOP Association, Washington, say their companies have outperformed the Dow Jones Industrial Average, according to results of a survey by the Employee Ownership Foundation.

The foundation is an affiliate of the ESOP Association, which represents employee-owned companies.

Association members paint an upbeat picture of the ESOP universe: 58% say their companies brought in more revenue in 2001 than in 2000; 60% say they believe using the ESOP structure has helped their companies' productivity; and 87% say their company's decision to become an ESOP was a good one.
