NU Online News Service, Aug. 12, 1:34 p.m. – Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C., has introduced a new health plan for small groups that features a zero deductible and no co-payments when members use in-network providers.

South Carolina Blue has added the plan to the company's Preferred Blue product line for groups with two to 50 members.

Although the zero-deductible plan eliminates deductibles and co-payments, participants are still responsible for coinsurance payments.

South Carolina Blue will pay 70% for covered services when members use network doctors and facilities, and 50% when they go outside of the network.

The plan covers office visits, inpatient and outpatient hospital care and mental health care, but dental care is optional.

South Carolina Blue has already started selling the Preferred Blue plans. The earliest possible effective date is Sept. 1.
