NU Online News Service, July 30, 4:29 p.m. – Hospitals owned only 34 U.S. health maintenance organizations in mid-2001, down from a high of 80 in 2000, according to Aventis Pharmaceuticals, Bridgewater, N.J., a subsidiary of Aventis S.A., Strasbourg, France.
Enrollment in hospital-owned HMOs has plummeted to 2.6 million, close to the level recorded in 1995, Aventis says.
Aventis compiled the figures for a report on the U.S. institutional health care market.
