NU Online News Service, July 17, 10:48 a.m. – MetLife Inc., New York, has hired Federico Icazza to be the director general of its newly acquired Aseguradora Hidalgo S.A. unit.

Icazza will run all MetLife life operations in Mexico once the MetLife finishes combining Hidalgo with MetLife Genesis S.A., MetLife says.

MetLife acquired Hidalgo in June, but it has been doing business in Mexico through MetLife Genesis for 10 years. Together, MetLife Genesis and Hidalgo control more than one-third of the Mexican life insurance market, MetLife says.

Icazza will report to William Toppeta, president of MetLife International.

Icazza previously worked at ING Comercial America Seguros, as director of government sales. He has a bachelor's degree in actuarial science from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico and a master's degree in business from the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey.

Jorge Vergara, now the director general of MetLife Genesis, will become the chief financial officer of the combined MetLife life operations in Mexico, MetLife says.
