NU Online News Service, July 8, 5:03 p.m. – John Hancock Advisers, a unit of John Hancock Financial Services Inc., Boston, has hired Howard Greene to be a senior vice president and portfolio manager.

Greene, a fixed-income investment specialist, will help John Hancock Advisers manage assets for mutual funds, private accounts, variable annuities and retirement plans.

Greene previously was a senior vice president at Sun Capital Advisers Inc., a unit of Sun Life Financial Services Company of Canada, Toronto. At Sun Capital, he managed $13 billion for institutional investors and Sun Life's own general account.

Before joining Sun Capital, Greene was a fixed-income analyst at Baring Asset Management Corp., London.

Greene is the fourth senior investment professional John Hancock Advisers has hired this year. In March, the company hired head trader Ron Ferrara, and in April, it hired equity managers Alan Norton and Henry Mehlman to manage small- and mid-cap strategies.
