NU Online News Service, May 29, 5:12 p.m. – AT&T Corp., New York, has awarded Aon Corp., Chicago, a seven-year contract to handle human resources and payroll services for U.S. units that employ 70,000 workers.

Aon, which will handle the job through its Aon Human Capital Services unit, will also be responsible for supervising benefit plan service providers, the company says.

Aon says it will be offering jobs to a group of 400 non-union employees who now run AT&T's human resources and payroll operations.

A second group of 184 unionized AT&T employees and 14 of their managers will work for Aon but remain AT&T employees, Aon says.

A third group of 200 high-level AT&T human resources and payroll employees will stay with AT&T. The AT&T employees will continue to set policies and take charge of long-range planning, Aon says.
