NU Online News Service, April 9, 3:14 p.m. – The New Hampshire House Commerce Committee has rejected Senate Bill 402, legislation that would have established a committee to study long-term care funding.
The bill called for the LTC study committee to consider whether the state itself ought to offer long-term care insurance.
The bill, sponsored by Sen. Carl Johnson and Rep. Rogers Johnson, both Republicans, had passed the Senate Public Institutions, Health and Human Services Committee.
The bill would have given the LTC study committee $75,000 from the state Health Care Fund to hire consultants.
Currently, interest on the Health Care Fund is used to pay for grants for community health care programs. A reduction in the principal balance of the Health Care Fund would have reduced the amount of interest available for the community health care grants, New Hampshire legislative analysts said.
