NU Online News Service, March 26, 12:59 p.m. – MedUnite Inc., San Diego, has agreed to use software from Medi-Gate.net L.L.C., East Brunswick, N.J., to help doctors hook up to its new, Web-based communication system.

MedUnite, a company founded by seven large health insurers, is trying to encourage more doctors to communicate with insurers electronically, by setting up a Web-based system that can transmit claims and handle many other transactions, such as requests for information about whether patients actually have insurance.

MedUnite found that many doctors want to be able connect existing practice management software systems to MedUnite.

Doctors can now use the "Internet print" feature in the Medi-Gate Integrator software to link standard practice management systems to MedUnite, MedUnite says.

Doctors can download the Medi-Gate software for free.

Doctors must pay a small registration fee to register for the MedUnite system, but, once they pay, use of the system is free, MedUnite says.

MedUnite also plans to find a way to use the Medi-Gate software as a vehicle for transmitting payments to doctors, from insurers, MedUnite says.
